Meteor Rising Celebrating One Million Customers and Growing!

Meteor announced today, Thursday September 11th that it has reached its ONE MILLIONTH subscriber number and now has over a million customers on its network.
Larry Smith, chief executive officer of Meteor, was on hand to present the one millionth customer, Keith Hanlon with his fantastic prize! Keith will enjoy €500 credit on his Meteor mobile every single month for the next TEN years. The millionth customer also walked away with a holiday of a lifetime worth € 10,000 for a total prize package of €70,000.
Keith Hanlon, who is from Lusk, County Dublin, made the move to Meteor and subsequently found out that he, is the lucky millionth customer. "I couldn't believe it when I got the call from Meteor to tell me that I was their millionth customer and won this amazing prize! I'm so delighted that I made the move. My wife and daughter made the move also as Meteor offered us better value than the operator we used to be with".

Meteor, Ireland's third largest operator, has achieved many milestones in its short history but none as significant as reaching the one millionth subscriber. Since Meteor officially launched in 2001 the company has faced many challenges as it entered a duopoly mobile market. However it stuck to its promises, shaking up the competition and lowering mobile prices for its customers, a promise it intends to keep.
Launching with 268 employees on the books in 2001, Meteor has created an additional 550 full time permanent jobs. Including contractors, the operator today has a staff of nearly one thousand employees.
The one millionth customer event comes hot on the heels of its 500,000th customer celebration which took place in November 2005. Since then, Meteor has increased its retail footprint by a whopping 50% and now has 39 stores nationwide while doubling its subscriber base amidst strong competition in the Irish mobile market.
So what's next for Ireland's third largest mobile operator? To continue to grow in a highly saturated mobile market is a challenge in itself. Now with one million plus customers, Meteor will continue to focus on growth in revenue and market share. It will combine this with deploying a 3G network using the latest technologies, while bringing much needed competition in the 3G and mobile broadband market.
