Meteor Launches Ireland's First Android Handset - HTC Hero

Today, Thursday the 22nd of October, Meteor announced the launch of its latest handset - the HTC Hero. From the 1st of November, the Android-powered HTC Hero, with its distinct sleek design, will be available to buy only in Meteor Stores and online at www.meteor.ie. The HTC Hero comes equipped with access to the Android Market, where users can search and download applications to personalize and customize the phone.

Commenting on the launch today, Meteor’s Head of Devices & Product Logistics Kealan Donoghue said:
“The Android-powered HTC Hero, Ireland’s first Android- based phone with a customisable user interface is pushing the boundaries in terms of mobile phone innovation and design. This is a handset that our customers have expressed great interest in and we’re delighted that Meteor customers are the first in Ireland to get to experience all the Hero has to offer.”

He added: “The HTC Hero will be available from any of our 40 Meteor stores nationwide and online from the 1st of November. The handset will be priced at €399 on Prepay and from €99.99 on Billpay. Together with Meteor’s high speed 3G network and best value data plans, such as Bill Pay Surf or Bill Pay Max, this gives Meteor customers a unique mobile internet experience.”

The HTC Hero takes personalisation to a whole new level - enabling you to make the phone exactly as you want it. Phones are now widely used to email, text and to post updates on Facebook and Twitter. With its 3.2-inch HVGA display, the HTC hero is ideal for browsing the internet, enjoying multimedia and other content while maintaining its compact size and weight and fitting comfortably in your hand.

Boasting a broad variety of hardware features, the HTC Hero includes a GPS, gravity-sensor, 3.5mm stereo headset jack, a 5 mega-pixel autofocus camera and expandable MicroSD memory. The device also includes a dedicated Search button that goes beyond basic search and enables you to search through Twitter, locate people in your contact list and find emails in your inbox or search in any other area in Hero. As the first Android device with Flash Lite, the new HTC Hero represents a key milestone for Android and the Flash Platform.

Commenting on the Hero's eagerly awaited arrival in the Irish market, HTC’s Executive Director, Jon French, said:
"We are delighted the HTC Hero has arrived in Ireland, our first phone to embody HTC Sense™ - an intuitive, seamless experience built upon three fundamental principles - make it mine, stay close, and discover the unexpected. Perfect for keeping up with all the news on Twitter and Facebook, the HTC Hero is really making its mark in the consumer space, recently winning both Stuff Magazine's "Gadget of the Year and T3's Gadget of the Year.“
