ALL HAIL THE KING, METEOR CROWNS DUBLINER, PHIL GIBNEY IRELANDâ??S SOCIAL NETWORKING KING
METEOR IS THE NUMBER ONE IRISH TELECOMS COMPANY ON FACEBOOK IN TERMS OF FAN NUMBERS
The votes are in and after a nationwide search, Meteor announces Ireland’s first ever Social Networking King, Phil Gibney. After facing stiff competition from a selection of nationwide finalist counties, Phil, from Finglas in Dublin, battled it out in Meteor’s search to find one person in Ireland who just can’t live without social networking. It wasn’t just the Dub’s who came out tops in the competition, with runners-up from all over the country: the Longford King came a close second, Carlow placed third and Kilkenny was fourth.
And who better to award the Social Networking King of Ireland than Meteor, the first operator to provide free internet on your phone with up to 250MB for pre–pay customers, along with free Meteor texts, so you can stay connected while you’re out and about. Meteor has enjoyed unprecedented growth in recent years and now has over one million customers on its network.
Speaking at the announcement, Deirdre Currid, Meteor’s Marketing Communications Manager, said
“Meteor is very active in social networking and we connect to our customers in an engaging and open manner online. We offer free internet up to 250MB to our pre-pay customers along with free Meteor texts, which is why we are the number one telecommunications company in Ireland on Facebook in terms of fan numbers. The search for Ireland’s Social Networking King or Queen proved to be a tough contest and Phil is a very worthy winner of the title Social Networking King.”
The search for Ireland’s Social Networking King or Queen Competition took place throughout the month of May via a Facebook application on the Meteor Facebook page, whereby fans were asked to vote for their favourite social networking king or queen.
Meteor is particularly active on Facebook, being the number one Irish telecommunications company in Ireland, in terms of fan numbers. Meteor’s facebook page now has a whopping 6,279 fans*. Launched on the 12th of April, more than 6,000 fans were clocked up in just over two months. In total, 35,000 people have visited the Meteor Facebook page since the launch.
