What about getting mobile broadband using my mobile phone?

You can connect your mobile phone to your PC and use your phone to connect to the mobile network providing internet access for your PC. This is called tethering which is a bit like mobile broadband. The process to setting up tethering with your laptop varies depending on your mobile phone so you will need to refer to the user manual for detailed information. Many mobile phones come packaged with the required software and USB cable complete with set up instructions or alternatively instructions on how to set up a wireless connection between your phone and laptop.

Signal

How can I tell what network type I'm on when I’m using Broadband To Go?

The network you are on will be indicated on the bottom left-hand corner of the Broadband To Go Manager screen.

How can I improve my signal?

Our mobile broadband network is fast and most people will experience speeds in excess of 2 Mbps. Because mobile broadband uses a radio signal, the speed you will get depends on several factors like your signal strength, your location from the nearest transmitter, the construction of your building and weather conditions. If you find that you need to improve your download speed, you can try changing your location within your house, for e.g. moving upstairs or moving to a window location as signal strength can be hampered by thickness of walls.

Why can’t I connect to the Internet?

If you are having problems connecting to the internet:-

  • Make sure your PC has finished starting up before plugging your device into the USB port
  • Make sure your device is plugged into the USB port correctly so that it can be detected
  • Make sure your SIM card has been inserted correctly into the device. Try re-inserting your SIM card to ensure that it is securely in place.
  • Make sure your antivirus software or firewall is not interfering with connection. You may need to switch it off when installing the BBTG device or you have to 'allow' the software to connect to the internet when prompted.
  • Make sure that you are connected to the right network.
  • Make sure that you have sufficient coverage by checking the no. of bars on the signal bar which is located in the bottom left handside corner of the Broadband To Go Manager Screen.

I can connect but cannot browse?

Please check that you have sufficient credit on your Broadband to Go account. To check your balance, login to MyMeteor or text 50104 "mmb balance" from your Broadband To Go Manager Screen.

What does HSPA mean?

HSPA means High Speed Package Access. If you see this term on your Broadband To Go manager screen, it means you will be enjoying the fastest speeds that the Meteor 3G network has to offer.

Data passes

How do I select the broadband pass I want?

A window will be presented when your pass has expired or your data allowance has been used up. The pass options will be presented to you based on the credit that you have in your account.

A Day Pass lasts from the time you activate and 24 hours thereafter.

How long does the 30 day pass last?

What happens if I exceed my data allowance provided by my Pass?

If you exceed the 500 MB allowance in any one day you will be charged 2c for every extra MB downloaded. You can avoid this by checking your balance as described above, and by upgrading to a 30 Day Pass if you are approaching the limit on your Day Pass.

If your data allowance is used or your pass has expired then you can choose to purchase another pass. You can select your pass on the Broadband to Go window.

What happens if I exceed the 7.5GB allowance provided by my 30 Day Pass?

If you go over the 7.5 GB allowance provided by your 30 Day Pass, you will automatically revert to a Day Pass rate of €2.99, covering you for 500 MB of data per day. Of course this will only be the case as long as you have enough credit in your account to cover the Day Pass rate.

Is upload and download usage taken out of my data allowance?

Yes. Both upload and download usage will contribute towards your data allowance. Similarly, if you go over your data allowance, your excess usage is calculated by adding together download and upload usage.
