Meteor Choice Music Prize – Irish Song of the Year 2011

A new award category is being added to this year's Meteor Choice Music Prize. This new award is for Irish Song of the Year and will be known as the Meteor Choice Music Prize – Irish Song of the Year 2011.

A shortlist of 10 nominated songs for the Meteor Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year 2011 will be compiled by combining selected songs from the Meteor Choice Music Prize Judging Panel & the Irish Airplay charts. A public vote will decide the winner via texting voting and online voting at Meteor's facebook page. The nominated song that receives the most votes will be the winner. The winning song will be announced at the Meteor Choice Music Prize event at the Olympia Theatre on 8th March and presented with the award for Meteor Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year 2011.

The judging panel consists of 11 media professionals, representing Irish print, radio TV, online and other assembled music professionals.

Eligibility
To be considered for the Meteor Choice Music Prize - Irish Song of the Year 2011, a release must meet ALL the following conditions:

  1. The song/track for the Meteor Choice Music Prize must have been released for the very first time in Ireland during 2011. This means that the song/track can include radio and promotional releases and album tracks (from albums released in 2011)
  2. The song must have been made available to the general public (for purchase, on an album, or given away for free in shops, at gigs or on websites) for the very first time in Ireland (ie Republic of Ireland and/or Northern Ireland) between January 1 2011 and December 31 2011.
  3. The song must be original material, of any genre.
  4. The artist(s) must have been born in Ireland (ie Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland) and/or hold an Irish passport. Bands are eligible to be nominated if the majority of the band members were born in Ireland (ie Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland) and/or hold an Irish passport.
  5. Please note that there is NO formal application process for the Meteor Choice Music Prize – Irish Song of the Year 2011. Once the song meets the above criteria, it is eligible to be considered by the judges for selection.

Public voting commences 2nd February 2012 and closes midnight on 4th March 2012

Only one vote per nominee from a given mobile number and URL will be counted on a daily basis.

SMS (text) Voting is open to customers of all Irish mobile networks and will be charged at standard text rates.

Competition entrants are entered automatically for the competition by voting for their favourite artist for the Meteor Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year 2011 provided for under this promotion, either via text message to 085 7114444 , or by going onto Meteor's facebook page at www.facebook.com/meteor.

By entering this competition entrants will be deemed to have read and understood these rules and agreed to be bound by them.

This competition is open to all customers of mobile telephone networks in Ireland (excluding Northern Ireland) aged 18 years or over. Any person who is (or has been within 3 years prior to the entry date of the competition) an employee or independent contractor of Meteor or is an immediate family member of such an employee or independent contractor or is an employee, independent contractor or immediate family member of either of any company, third party or other organisation professionally associated with this competition are ineligible to participate.
Voters will be entered for the competition once per week in the weekly draw to win tickets to the Meteor Choice Music Prize event on 8th March. Entry is determined by votes registered in each respective week. Entry will not be carried forward into another weekly draw. There will be weekly draws to win tickets from the 6th of February to 4th March 2012 when voting closes. Entries must be made by the owner of the mobile phone number provided, or upon which the text message is sent.

Meteor reserves the right to request written proof of age from any competition winner. Both the competition winner and their guest must be 18 years or older to use the tickets and attend the Meteor Choice Music Prize

Entries must be in strict accordance with these terms and conditions. Any entry not in strict accordance with these terms and conditions will be deemed to be invalid and no prizes will be awarded in respect of such entry.
Winners of the competition will be drawn on a weekly basis from 6th February 2012, at random by an independent judge from all valid and correct entries received by midnight on the Sunday prior to the draw. The chance of winning is determined by the number of valid entries received for each weekly draw. These winners will be notified via their mobile phone number which entered, or provided via online entry, within 3 working days from the holding of the draw.

The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
There will be 2 winners each week receiving a prize consisting of two tickets to the Meteor Choice Music Prize event taking place at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin on Thursday, 8th March.. Prizes will be delivered to winners within 5 days prior to the holding of the award ceremony.

The prizes are as stated in these terms and conditions. No cash substitution or alternative is available. In the event the winner declines the prize awarded to him/her, Meteor may award the prize to another entrant.

By accepting the prizes, the winners grant Meteor the right to use and publish his/her name and/or picture in such media as Meteor may choose for advertising and promotional purposes without additional consideration. Meteor may also publish and/or disclose the result of the competition including the winner's name and details of entry.

Meteor reserves the right to suspend or terminate the competition or amend these terms and conditions or the rules at any time for any valid technical or commercial reason.
Meteor accepts no responsibility or liability for any entries or information relating to entries that are ineligible, misdirected, lost for technical reasons or received after the closing date, nor for any votes cast through the website which do not provide a phone number. Such entries will be deemed invalid.
